Saronic announced it has selected Brownsville, TX as the future home of Port Alpha, its next-generation shipyard designed to help restore American maritime strength and significantly expand the nation’s shipbuilding capacity. Initially situated on 835 acres at the Port of Brownsville, with the opportunity to expand to nearly 4,400 acres, Port Alpha will encompass a shipyard and manufacturing facility capable of producing vessels up to 850 ft. Future site expansion could support the production of vessels over 1,200 ft. The site provides hundreds of acres of waterfront access, deepwater channel connectivity, multimodal logistics infrastructure, and room for long-term expansion. (source: Medium)
Hut 8 has fully commercialized its 1 GW Beacon Point AI data center campus in Nueces County, TX, with a second 352 MW IT lease, bringing campus-level base-term contract value to $19.6B. The 15-year lease doubles the existing high-investment-grade tenant's contracted capacity at the campus to 704 MW, and renewal options carry potential campus-level contract value to $50.2B. JetZero is opening a new engineering office in Wichita, KS. Per JetZero, this satellite office complements its headquarters and its advanced manufacturing and final assembly campus under construction in Greensboro, NC, as well as its Design Center in Long Beach, CA. JetZero plans to begin operations at WSU’s Innovation Campus later this year. Located at the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) on Wichita State University's Innovation Campus, the office will focus on advanced materials expertise, digital engineering, and certification testing in direct support of the Z4 program. Extropic plans to establish the first U.S. manufacturing capability for thermodynamic computing. The startup signed a non-binding LOI with the Department of Commerce for up to $75M in CHIPS R&D funding to bring its first large-scale TSU clusters online and fabricate its Z1.5 chip at an American foundry. Its chips are built to make probabilistic AI more energy efficient at the edge, including for defense, autonomous systems and biology, while reducing reliance on offshore leading-edge chip fabs. Beyond Reach opened a new 16,000 SF facility in Brooklyn, NY, to begin producing its hardware at scale, with a goal of producing 10+ units per day by the end of 2027. (source: Payload)
1872 announced it has opened an automated steel fabrication facility in Cincinnati’s Camp Washington neighborhood. The new factory occupies the original 1903 David Hummel Building Company facility. The company was a stone masonry firm that built both Cincinnati’s architecturally significant City Hall and Union Terminal. 1872 took its name from the year Andrew Carnegie built the world’s first steel mill. Redwire opened its new 30,000 SF Space Research and Manufacturing Facility in Georgetown, IN. (source: X)
Redwire is adding 164,000 SF to its operational footprint in Huntsville, AL, increasing the company’s manufacturing and engineering capacity. Supported by approximately $8.5M in eligible state and local economic development incentives, Redwire is expected to create approximately 150 new high-skilled jobs spanning engineering, manufacturing, integration, and technical operations. Construction has already begun on the expanded campus, with the building expected to be completed by Q4 2027. (source: X)
Isembard opened its new manufacturing and R&D facility in Wissous, near Paris, France. The UK company, which develops AI-powered manufacturing solutions for sectors including aerospace, defense, energy and robotics, has chosen France for its first industrial site outside the UK. (source: LinkedIn)
STEALTH NO MORE
Hop Aero (YC S26) is building rocket cargo vehicles that deliver to contested environments hundreds of miles away in minutes. The rockets fly point-to-point into the most austere locations at hypersonic speeds. The stated goal: give the U.S. and its allies the asymmetric advantage that deters a future major conflict. Founded in 2024, the company has raised $3M in pre-seed and won a $1.25M SBIR grant from the U.S. Air Force. The founding team is unusually deep for a six-person company. Jacob Balaj came up through integration and test roles at SpaceX (Falcon 9/Heavy, where he built a booster refurbishment process that cut test time in half), Virgin Orbit, Masten Space Systems, and SpinLaunch, after avionics QA on Marine Corps tiltrotors. Matija Milenovic previously founded porkchop (electric satellite propulsion, launched on a SpaceX Transporter mission), led a 20-plus person team on a supersonic UAV at Destinus, and scaled Ukrainian loitering munition production from 10 to over 100 units a month. VXB raised a $4M seed round led by Dauntless Ventures, with participation from Fulcrum Venture Group and Investible, following an earlier pre-seed. The company's pitch, per its own framing, is to collapse multi-year space hardware design cycles into days. Space hardware development is notoriously slow. Designing a satellite bus, a structural component, or a subsystem can take years of iteration, analysis, and requalification. VXB is building the software to compress that timeline dramatically, bringing the kind of rapid iteration that software developers take for granted to the physical, high-stakes domain of spacecraft engineering. Alexander Ryan is the founder and CEO. Ryan explained VXB’s origin: "VXB was born when I had a complex thruster to design on a shoestring budget, so I taught software to do the proving. When exploring a thousand high-fidelity variations costs no more than testing one, the only limit left is the quality of an engineer's questions, and we are scaling that leverage for the entire industry." Cosmic Robotics (YC) is building construction robots with a stated end goal of building a city on Mars — and proving the technology today by building large-scale infrastructure on Earth, starting with utility-scale solar farms and hyperscale data centers. Their first product, Cosmic-1, has already installed tens of thousands of solar panels in the field and more than doubled the productivity of traditional crews. Cosmic-1 is a 10,000-pound autonomous robot for repetitive lifting and manipulation. In solar construction, it lifts 90-pound panels and places them with millimeter precision — in 100-degree heat, freezing rain, snow, and dust — working alongside existing crews across tens of thousands of cycles. Founders James Emerick (UPenn, Built Robotics, Autodesk Research) and Lewis C Jones (Caltech, NASA, SpaceX, Relativity Space) have spent their careers shipping robots to job sites and hardware to space. Queue emerged from stealth with $18.6M in funding from AlleyCorp, Riot Ventures, Ubiquity Ventures, House Capital, and Inception Studio, among others. The company is building a fully autonomous pharmacy, founded and led by CEO Nick Desai, who previously founded Heal, the doctor-house-call company. The problem Queue is attacking is one nearly everyone has experienced: the pharmacy is slow, understaffed, and error-prone, with pharmacists spending most of their time counting pills and managing logistics rather than on clinical care. Queue's approach is to automate the dispensing process end-to-end, freeing pharmacists for the work that truly requires their expertise while making prescription fulfillment faster and more reliable. Atomarine (YC) is building floating nuclear data centers — siting both the reactor and the compute offshore, on the water. It's a direct answer to the two hardest constraints on the AI buildout at once: power and siting. Land-based data centers face multi-year grid interconnection queues and fierce local opposition to both reactors and large compute facilities. Atomarine's bet is that the ocean sidesteps both—offering abundant cooling, no land-use disputes, and the ability to co-locate generation and compute on a single mobile platform. BlueCore Energy came out of stealth this month and, one day later, became part of a genuine milestone: the Port of Long Beach became the first U.S. port to sign an SMR collaboration, with BlueCore partnering alongside the port, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration (MARAD), and the American Association of Port Authorities. BlueCore is the first SMR company headquartered at a major port. Founder Kofi Asante is leading the company, which is developing small modular reactors on floating barges to deliver zero-emission energy for maritime and port applications. The reactors heat water and transfer the resulting steam into a generator, which then spins a turbine to generate electricity, Asante explained. The system is water-cooled in a closed loop. Neuron Industries (YC S26) is replacing the PLC — the programmable logic controller that serves as the brain of every machine in every factory. The status quo is stark: a $5,000 computer with 5MB of memory, programmable only in languages frozen in 1993. Neuron is building the first industrial controller purpose-built for the AI era. Describe your process in plain English, and Neuron turns it into production control logic — with the test and verification guardrails industrial applications demand. It's already running in customers' plants, with pilots spanning chemical processing, electronics manufacturing, wastewater treatment, and small modular reactors, cutting controls projects from weeks to hours. Co-founder Dennis Ren built hardware for the Apple Vision Pro, Amazon Go, and Tesla Fremont, and was Freeform's founding electrical engineer. Co-founder Kenneth R. bootstrapped and exited WorkIPO and shipped enterprise software at Amazon and GOAT Group. (source: Y Combinator)
Gritt launched with $32.4M in pre-seed and Series A funding to bring physical AI to the toughest construction sites in the world. The $26M Series A was led by Obvious Ventures, with participation from Union Square Ventures and Active Impact Investments, plus existing backers First Round Capital, Climactic, Congruent Ventures, and VSC Ventures. The founding team includes robotics and AI experts from Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, and MIT. Rather than building new machines, Gritt's robotic arms and AI attach to the equipment crews already own — skid steers, forklifts — enabling the system to pick, place, assemble, and transport materials with millimeter precision in ever-changing outdoor environments. The system learns from every deployment, compressing a task that once took months to train down to days. As CEO Puneet Puri puts it, you can't tell a construction site to be less muddy or to stop snowing — Gritt's physical AI is built for the unstructured, outdoor world. Estes Energy Solutions emerged from stealth after shipping its first commercial Magnus battery systems and unveiling Levius, a vertically integrated magnesium processing platform. The company builds battery systems purpose-built for the transport sectors conventional pack architecture was never designed for: rail, marine, aviation, and off-highway. Contracts are signed with rail, marine, and on-highway customers, with more shipments planned this year. Founder and CEO Dustin Grace previously served in senior battery engineering leadership roles in the EV industry. The core bet is magnesium — the lightest structural metal on earth, long held back by corrosion, flammability, manufacturability, and supply chain problems. Estes built an integrated stack to solve those barriers: proprietary flame-retardant magnesium alloys that retain full castability, large-format semi-solid casting, and an ultra-energy-efficient coating process that the company says cuts energy consumption more than 70% versus conventional approaches. The result is a load-bearing battery component — structural load path, thermal management, and high-voltage compatibility in a single monocast part. Magnus is designed for 1000V systems at mass parity with diesel and qualifies from the ground up for Buy America requirements and DoW non-FEoC mandates. (source: Yahoo! Finance)
Proprio Robotics (YC S26) builds autonomous robots that operate data centers — handling the physical work of assembling, maintaining, and decommissioning AI compute infrastructure across its entire lifecycle. The system runs on physical AI models purpose-built for working with expensive, fragile hardware: robots that assemble servers onshore, maintain live data centers 24/7, and recover reusable components like GPUs and memory from retired servers. Co-founders Anirudh Pai and Raghav Punnam are graduate robotics researchers out of Berkeley AI Research and Harvard. Pai has collaborated with NVIDIA researchers on precise models for dexterous, tactile-aware manipulation; Punnam has spent years on reinforcement learning and humanoid world models. The problem they're attacking is a bottleneck hiding inside the biggest infrastructure story of the decade. Over $7 trillion is going into data center buildouts over the next five years, but the compute supply chain can't scale as it does today. Building a server means handling fragile, high-value hardware with precision — work traditional automation can't do — so servers are still assembled by hand offshore and shipped for weeks before they're racked and delivered. Once they're live, labor constraints make maintenance worse: there are nearly 400,000 unfilled data center technician positions in the United States. And when servers retire, there's no efficient way to extract the valuable components inside. (source: Y Combinator)

Elon Musk’s tunneling startup The Boring Company is in talks to raise a $4B funding round at a valuation of $20B, according to The Wall Street Journal. The deal hasn’t closed, and the terms could change, the WSJ says. At $20 billion, the valuation would be a significant increase from The Boring Company’s $5.7 billion valuation in 2022. SpaceX alumni behind 1872 are using one of Ohio’s largest seed rounds to build an AI-native factory model for energy, utility, and industrial customers, aiming to cut steel fabrication lead times from months to weeks with software, robotics, and physical AI. 1872 will use the Camp Washington facility as a prototype to validate end-to-end automated production before scaling its software platform and factory model into additional heavy manufacturing sectors. Kind Designs, a Miami, FL-based climate resilience company, raised $10M in Pre-Series A funding at a $70M valuation, bringing its total funding raised to $21.5M. The round was backed by Kyle Kuzma, Mark Cuban, and Adrian Fenty. The company plans to use the funding to expand into new markets such as New York and California, increase seawall production capacity, support large-scale municipal and federal projects, and grow its engineering and operations teams. EELI Technology has closed its oversubscribed $2M pre-seed round. AGREEMENTS, PARTNERSHIPS, & CONTRACTS
Rocket Lab has secured its largest launch contract to date, receiving a $266M award from the U.S. Space Force to conduct a series of suborbital launches in support of national security and missile defense programs. Awarded through the Space Systems Command’s Rocket Systems Launch Program (RSLP), the contract covers 12 suborbital launches, with options for up to six additional missions. The first launch is expected no earlier than the end of 2026. The missions will primarily launch from Rocket Lab’s new site at the Pacific Spaceport Complex - Alaska in Kodiak, expanding the company’s operational footprint alongside Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand and Launch Complexes 2 and 3 in Virginia. Spacecraft developer Fortastra and manufacturing company Hadrian signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the application of advanced manufacturing methods to Fortastra’s satellite development programs. The partnership establishes a framework for technical collaboration and future prototype and development work to address national security space missions. CHAOS Industries announced the acquisition of Atropos Group, an aerospace company developing autonomous air platforms. CHAOS' counter-drone radar and sensing systems are in production at U.S. facilities and deployed to protect critical infrastructure, both domestically and with global partners in the Middle East. The Atropos acquisition builds on that manufacturing base, bringing airframe production into the domestic supply chain and adding U.S. manufacturing capacity and jobs as the company scales. CoAspire announced that the US Navy has selected a ground-launched variant of its Rapidly Adaptable Affordable Cruise Missile-Extended Range (RAACM-ER) for its Coalition Heterogeneous Affordable Offensive Strike (CHAOS) program. Under a $70M OTA, the company “will design, build, test, and deliver…an affordable, ground-launched, mid-range, cruise missile system that can attack both land-based and moving maritime targets” for FMS to US allies and partners. Karman has agreed to acquire Glasgow-based Walker Precision Engineering for approximately $94M, expanding its presence in the European defense and space markets. Walker specializes in precision manufacturing, advanced materials, electroplating, electromechanical assemblies, and engineering services that support more than 25 European tactical missile, guidance, and defense programs. Its capabilities serve major aerospace and defense prime contractors across Europe.

Voyager Technologies was awarded a new mission management contract with Sandia National Laboratories to fly their Big Boy demonstration aboard the International Space Station in 2027. The contract underscores the continued and growing demand for access to low-Earth orbit for national security research, with additional contracts expected to follow. Under the contract, Voyager will provide end-to-end mission management, including experiment design, payload integration, safety review, manifest and mission planning, and on-orbit operations. The payload will integrate with the company’s NEL, an external payload platform mountable on Voyager’s Bishop Airlock, the first and only permanent commercially owned module on the Space Station.
